Day 52: Palatka to St. Augustine, Florida – 44 miles

We had a nice round circle last night of our reflections of the trip and I was given a plaque with C2C 2016 with a picture of myself on the ride. The picture appeared to be from Arizona.

It was emotional and brought some closure to what had been done. The group was special because of the unselfishness, graciousness and true concern for one another that made this so special. EVERYONE was such a class act. Mariella was there and shared that with me. I was so grateful for these people and this experience. We rolled out of Palatka over the St. John’s River on what was a new bike path from Palatka to St. Augustine.

It was great. We were in early for lunch and walked Old Town. Kilwin’s fudge.  We had lunch at A1A ale house.

We went over the Bridge of Lions and on to the sign of St. Augustine.

We went to the host hotel and dipped our wheels into the Atlantic.

We were treated to a toast, medal and a swim.

image We have a farewell dinner tonight at the Sunset Grill and I will document that tomorrow. This ride is done and I made it. Thanks to everyone. Peace

  1. Tres, we are incredibly proud of you for accomplishing such a challenging journey!! We enjoyed following you on this trip of lifetime and reading about your days, the hilly and rainy rides as well as the rest days. We are happy that you made it safe and kept great positive attitude about this adventure. We can’t wait to see you and hear about it sometimes soon!! Lots of love, Darren & Cici

  2. Tres, you are amazing! I think the picture of you at the water with your bike is the coolest! That should be framed as well as the back cover of your memoirs! So happy for you that you got to do it and blessed to be able to follow along. Love you Dawg! Call me in a week or so after you’ve decompressed.

  7. TRES DAWG! Congratulations brother! It seems like just last week you were in Texas, and then a month before that you were in Texas too! I kid, but man, that was one long state, eh? It was such a pleasure following you for the past 2 months, and I am sad to see it end. I can’t wait to catch up with you soon, and hear more about this awesome trip and experience of a lifetime. Loved the photos, the blog, the stories, the people, I felt like I was along for the ride the whole time. Hope you have a few more photos throughout the journey to post more, would love to see it, and I’m sure would be much easier on the computer rather than the phone.

Congrats again brother. Glad you’re safe and sound with the Mrs.

  8. There are no words that can describe the way I feel about this amazing feat. I know one thing you will treasure this memory for ever. And every time I hear the name Tres the tears of joy will come as they are right now. Can’t wait to see you and your partner in crime ” the little free wheeler”. Love to you both, Ruth
P.S. Mariella your contribution should not go unnoticed . The blog was genius. Without it the friends could not have shared this life changing event. R
